BENCHY Paris, Our Favorite Japanese Sando Spot in the 6th Arrondissement

If you’re exploring the 6th arrondissement of Paris and craving something unique, head to Benchy, a Japanese sandwich café tucked away on the charming and vibrant Rue du Cherche-Midi. We recently visited, and we were seriously impressed.

Location & vibe

Benchy is nestled in one of the most lively and stylish streets of the Left Bank. The area is full of character, independent boutiques, and galleries, making it a perfect stop for a gourmet break. The café itself is small and cozy, with a sleek Japanese-minimalist design and warm wood accents that bring an authentic Tokyo feel right into the heart of Paris.

Outside, there’s a small street-facing counter where you can enjoy your coffee and sandwich in the sun, ideal for people-watching on a beautiful Parisian day.

Inside, the ambiance is calm and refined, often accompanied by smooth jazz and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Every detail of the interior has been carefully thought out, from handcrafted ceramic cups to clean stone counters. It’s clear that this is a space created with care and attention to detail.

Benchy specializes in Japanese-style Sandos, soft, crustless sandwiches made with ultra-fluffy milk bread and rich, flavorful fillings. Here’s what we tried and recommend:

  • Pastrami sando: A satisfying, savory sando filled with tender pastrami and a balance of mustard and Japanese mayo.
  • Tamago sando: The iconic Japanese egg sandwich featuring a sweet and silky omelette.
  • Strawberry cake: Light, moist, and delicately sweet. A must-try dessert.
  • Shiso Mochi: A refreshing version of traditional mochi with a subtle minty aroma from the shiso leaf.

To drink:

  • Sparkling Yuzu: A cool, citrusy beverage perfect for warmer days.

One of the highlights of the visit was the exceptional service. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and professional, offering detailed explanations of the menu and thoughtful recommendations. The hospitality here mirrors what you’d expect from a top-tier café in Tokyo.
